This project, developed by the Ermesinde School Group in partnership with the Municipality of Valongo, has as its main objective to promote academic success through artistic education, providing three areas of artistic expression: theater, music and contemporary circus.
After an initial phase of experimentation, 5th year students have the opportunity to choose, with the support of their teachers, the artistic area in which they wish to participate, according to their interests. This choice is maintained by 6th year students. Participation in this project is mandatory, integrating the school day and being taught on the school premises, free of charge. The project began in the 2021-2022 academic year.
In addition to the work carried out in the classroom, this visit program aims to contribute to the artistic training of students, consolidating and expanding the knowledge acquired during classes.
At present, School Band is included in the Express’Arte project by Valongo City Council and the Ermesinde School Group.
The students of the Express’ARTE project experienced an unforgettable moment at the S. Vicente Auditorium in Alfena, with the Army Band – Porto Detachment.
After a day of learning with military musicians, the students went on stage and played side by side with the band, in an educational concert that enchanted the audience.
More than just music, it was a true celebration of sharing, artistic education and the importance of building bridges between school and the professional world.
A special thanks to the Valongo City Council, the Grupetto Association and the Army Band for making this very meaningful experience possible.
The 5th and 6th grade students of the Express’arte Música project had an unforgettable experience when they visited the Army Band Detachment in Porto. Between rhythmic steps and shared stories, they discovered how military discipline is allied with the art of music.
The most memorable moment? A mini-show where our young talents took to the stage and played shoulder to shoulder with the band musicians!
This unique sharing reinforces what we already know: music has the power to span generations, inspire dreams and create connections that last forever.

On May 8th, the Ermesinde Cultural Forum hosted a truly special event: the second concert of our Express’arte music project with the Porto Music Conservatory. We relived unforgettable moments from the exchange held with the Conservatory, where every moment was an opportunity to grow and connect through music.
On April 26th, the 6th year of our Express’Arte project came together for an exciting musical performance! Inspired by the spirit of freedom and democracy, our talented students presented a special repertoire in honor of this important date for Portugal.
